It still amazes me when out and about over the festive season how FEW business people are aware of SEO, typically when meeting people one of the first questions people ask me is “what I do for a living”.
“I’m an SEO Specialist” i say and suddenly you see this glaze appear in there eyes and typically they answer “whats that”.
Boy I thought Business people were switched on but alas it seems that many are operating with their eyes wide shut.
Having explained SEO a few times without the aid of my trusty computer over Christmas it occurred to me that it would be best to just give them a business card and let them read all about it here. Guessing from some of the beleaguered looks and the unwillingness of many of these so called business people to explore my instinct tells me that they are unlikely to read about it due to there own nature.
However one thing is for sure, Business growth in the UK is more likely to come from the expansion of Internet growth due to increased usage and peoples better understanding of what search engines or in particular what Google offers them.
Business owners who close there eyes to this should be aware of the likely long term damage they are doing to their businesses. Also they should be aware of the head start they are allowing their competitors.
Particularly one of the most likely culprits of inactivity has to be from mid sized companies who have managers running them, the underlying reason is generally ”change” whilst also not understanding what is required or what to order for the businesses benefit. Directors would do well to make investigations into what SEO offers their businesses and how it could benefit them.
Likewise one of the biggest failings of small business actively trying to promote themselves through SEO is their own inactivity or not taking the advise they are paying for. This is ultimately a deciding factor of how effective or ineffective the SEO campaign is. I state clearly when undertaking SEO contracts that effort is required from the clients for their own long term good.
Simply conclusion:
- Inactivity in 2010 with SEO will affect your business growth.
- Change is happening and companies need to react.
- Clients are in a position to help themselves provided they follow the advice given.
