We are former Ebay Titanium Powersellers.
Before leaving the community, we were frustrated that Ebay had stopped listening to the powersellers that are crucial to maintaining it’s reputation.
What they seem to have forgot is that without reliable sellers there is no Ebay.
The constant rising fees and overseas sellers (who use buy for 1p ship for £20.00) are being allowed to compete in the U.K market place, without the burden of our U.K taxation and costs, this means that they are effectively turning Ebay U.K into what now looks like Ebay China, and worse!
We had many meetings with senior officials and had good contacts inside Ebay, as we did lots of promotional work to help Ebay, along with national media coverage and were featured in the Daily Mirror for them on how to run a successful business on Ebay only to be targeted afterwards. This really did turn into a bit of a joke when Ebay were constantly undermining U.K business with their policies. .
Our problems that we were encountering and concerns about what was happening to Ebay were discussed with the top-level people, but sadly this fell on deaf ears. They do want our fees and business but would not listen to any of our comments and concerns.
Everything we said would happen, has happened, sellers are being squeezed as fees have risen, the sellers are held to ransom by the feedback system which is not fair to the people who are trying to make their business grow. Just one malicious customer can destroy a sellers good reputation…One of your competitive sellers (under another username) can do exactly the same thing….
Ebays greed is clearly showing as their fees increase, but that’s only because they have no competition, but they preach that they provide a level playing field for sellers but they also know that costs vary across the world. Where is the seller’s protection with this? They really should listen to their customers.
We also discussed at the time that Ebay could have turned Ebay Express into a separate establishment, for Powersellers who had been promoted through their hard work and reputation. Ebay Express should have been a separate site for top UK sellers and could have been marketed as the ‘Best of Ebay’. Again the impetus was lost, Ebay constantly promotes ‘Buy it Cheap’ and obtaining fair prices regularly has become even more difficult for sellers as customers have been primed and conditioned.
What has happened?
Recent strikes by powersellers show the discontent and recent rises in fees, again showing Ebays incompetence to understand U.K business. Powersellers should understand that Ebay will never change. No other Auction house has been able to attract the high volume of customers that sellers need, but also the customers do not move because the Powersellers are providing the choice the customers require. It’s a catch 22 situation.
How did we Escape?
Firstly we are still internet based selling our ladies clothing. 5 years ago we scanned the internet for other outlets without success but noticed that google had strengthened its position and was fast became the leading authority for internet searches. Google is the No: 1 search engine and searches means many new customers. We are doing extremely well with our website and have not looked back since leaving Ebay.

1. Do It Yourself website.
Success rates are nil, remember you are up against talented developers and unless you are prepared to study for a number of years, you do not stand a chance of becoming successful through search-engines.

They will sell you pretty pages that do not have any impact through free natural searches, these sites can cost more in advertising than ebay fees with fewer sales.

5 years ago I started my education with web development through investing £3000.00+vat in www.j-lou.com. The developer produced a website that looked very nice but it did not work, I was fobbed off and ‘Quoted’ “that not all products sell online”. I had no information to know why or what was going on…
